The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is one of the most respected agricultural research centres in the world, and it’s right here in Ibadan, Nigeria. If you’re planning a visit and wondering how to get there once you enter Ibadan — whether you’re coming from Lagos, Abeokuta, Abuja, Kano, Port Harcourt, Benin, or anywhere within Nigeria or Ibadan itself — this guide is for you.
Where is IITA located in Ibadan?
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture is located on a large expanse of land along the Oyo Road, spanning parts of Ojoo and Moniya.

Coming to IITA from Lagos
If you’re coming from Lagos by bus, your final stop will most likely be either Iwo Road or Challenge. Iwo Road is generally the better option for a smoother connection to the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture.
From Iwo Road, take a cab to Ojoo.
At Ojoo, look for a cab heading to Moniya. Tell the driver you’re dropping at IITA, which is along the Ojoo-Moniya road.
If you’re driving, simply follow the same route and watch out for the IITA sign on your right.

Coming from Abeokuta
There are two popular routes depending on where your bus enters Ibadan:
Option 1: Via Apata
Apata → Dugbe → Mokola → Sango → Ojoo → Moniya
Option 2: Via Challenge
Challenge → Iwo Road → Ojoo → Moniya
In both cases, your goal is to get to Ojoo, then take a vehicle towards Moniya, and drop at IITA.
From South South, South East and other parts of South West
Your vehicle will most likely stop at Iwo Road.
From Iwo Road, take a cab to Ojoo.
At Ojoo, look for a cab heading to Moniya. Tell the driver you’re dropping at IITA, which is along the Ojoo-Moniya road.
Coming from the North to IITA
If your bus drops you at Ojoo, you’re almost there:
Just take a Marwa, bike or cab going towards Moniya and alight at IITA (it’s not far at all).
If you drop at Iwo Road, follow:
Iwo Road → Ojoo → Moniya (then drop at IITA).

Already in Ibadan?
No stress. Here’s the trick:
Wherever you are in Ibadan, just find your way to Ojoo. From Ojoo, take a cab or bike going to Moniya, and tell them you’re stopping at IITA.
If Iwo Road is closer to you than Ojoo, head there first, then proceed to Ojoo, and follow the same route.

From Challenge, you have two options:
- Go through Iwo Road, then to Ojoo.
- Or go through Bere → Mokola → Sango → Ojoo.
Note: The Bere-Mokola axis can get very busy during rush hour!
Final Tip:
Once you’re on the Ojoo–Moniya route, stay alert. It is clearly marked and is before you reach Moniya. Don’t miss your stop!
