This article is about how to get to Government College Ibadan (GCI), but it’s important to introduce the school.
Government College Ibadan, fondly called GCI, is one of those schools that has shaped Nigeria’s intellectual history. Founded in 1929, it has produced scholars, administrators, professionals, leaders across generations and Nigeria’s only Nobel Laureate. For decades, GCI has stood as a symbol of discipline, academic excellence and public service.
Today, beyond being a secondary school, GCI remains a very active public facility. It regularly hosts examinations, seminars, trainings, workshops, official meetings, and large-scale events. If you’re heading there for anything at all, knowing the road will save you time and leg work.
And yes, be ready to walk if you are not using a private car.

Offices and Facilities inside GCI
Within the GCI compound, you’ll commonly find:
- The School Administrative Office
- Examination Centres
- GCI Museum
- Lekan Are Hall (used for seminars and official programmes)
- NABTEB Oyo State Secretariat
- A Primary Health Care Centre
- FRSC Ido Licence Office
The compound is large, so it is important you ask questions when in doubt about the intended destination within the school.
